Later today, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. visits St. Petersburg:
Governor Charlie Crist, independent candidate for the United States Senate, will greet voters and receive the endorsement of prominent environmentalist and Democratic leader Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. The support of the son of the former Democratic presidential candidate, and nephew of the former President and Senator, represents yet another step toward Crist building the winning coalition of Democrats, Republicans, and independents require to defeat [sic] Tea Party extremist.
“Idiots on the right like Rush [Limbaugh] like to point to any cold-weather anomalies as proof that global warming doesn’t exist,” Kennedy says. “They are either deliberately blind to science or trying to protect their corporatist interests.”
UPDATE: From Team Rubio:
When he announced that he was running as an “independent,” Charlie Crist promised Floridians that he would go to Washington to end “the games and the name calling and the politics of destruction.” However, falling further behind in the Senate race, Crist stood beside supporter Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as he called Rubio a “crackpot” for opposing cap-and-trade and called Rubio’s supporters “stupid” and “angry.”
With today’s Crist event veering to the extreme, Rubio for Senate spokesman Alex Burgos issued the following statement: “The name calling and partisan attacks Floridians saw today at Charlie Crist’s rally are no different from what they are seeing in Crist’s false, negative ads. The irony is that Crist says the reason he’s running is to end the partisan bickering and return civility to Washington. Charlie Crist has proven once again that there’s nothing he won’t say or do to try to win an election.”
