I had a really nice time at Arkansas Tech yesterday. Very nice bunch of folks. In fact, I’ve got to say that Arkansas, in my experience, is perhaps America’s politest state, or certainly up there alongside Utah and Georgia (I keep the official index of America’s politest and rudest states in my head). Thanks especially to the NRO readers who showed up. Many in the large crowd of students were there for credit for their classes, which is always my least favorite kind of audience. Audiences that love or hate are engaged, audiences that are indifferent can be a cold bunch. So having friendly faces in the crowd helps and is appreciated.
The most pleasant surprise, however, was the fact that the professor who brought me to campus is one of NRO’s longest readers and interlocutors, Don Gooch. The Gooch goes back to the earliest G-File days. I didn’t even realize it until we were driving from the airport yesterday.
Anyway, tonight it’s a debate with Peter Beinart at Maryville, University at 7:00 P.M. in the auditorium. Hope folks in the area can make it.
You're not just going to leave us hanging, wondering what the rudest states are, are you?
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseMost of my wife's family is from northern Arkansas, and I can confirm that Arkansians are some of the nicest people in the country.
