Slate, which publishes serious material on occasion, today runs with a preposterous article by the preposterous William Saletan arguing that “the left is doing to Juan Williams what the right did to Shirley Sherrod.”
Yes, that right-winger Tom Vilsack, the secretary of agriculture, with the obvious acquiescence (if not at the direction) of the White House, fired Sherrod after an edited tape of her comments about helping black and white farmers made its way around the Internet.
It is the right-wingers, you see, who impose campus speech codes, defend restrictions on political speech by businesses, impose P.C. dogmas on any and all, and find bigotry lurking in the shadows cast by those who offer opinions differing from theirs. And who are willing to cast into unemployment those who violate their rules.
