Via The Hill:
Latino voters, the president said, would have an opportunity to send a message to Republicans, who Obama accused of “politicizing” immigration reform and the border security debate. Obama said “pressure has to be put on the Republican Party” if immigration reform is to become a reality.
“And if Latinos sit out the election instead of saying, we’re gonna punish our enemies and we’re gonna reward our friends who stand with us on issues that are important to us, if they don’t see that kind of upsurge in voting in this election, then I think it’s gonna be harder — and that’s why I think it’s so important that people focus on voting on November 2,” he said.
Contrast his inaugural address with everything that's come out of his mouth since. Almost sounds like Tea Party keynote.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbusePunish our enemies eh? Oh yes, he's a uniter for sure eh? Sheesh
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseBreathtaking! That quote deserves the widest possible dissemination.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseYes, that is what he did. It is how he thinks, as do many of his supporters.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseDid anyone ever explain to this president that he is called to serve as president of ALL American citizens - even those with whom he disagrees?
In the midst of the civil war, did Lincoln talk this way about the south?
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseSo, let me get this straight: The president accused the GOP of politicizing immigration reform, as a way to get out the liberal Latino vote, while making a poltical speech?
We know the president and other liberals/progressives view the GOP and conservatives as enemies. What's surprising is that a Harvard graduate seems immune to the simple concept of irony.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseOf course he did. And he's never been careful about it. If he doesn't consider Republicans to be the enemy, would he have acted the way he has towards them ("I Won". "Those Tea Bag extremists") at every turn?
Reply to this commentLinkReport Abusenon-Shocker.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseI'm more upset Obama believes and campaigns upon the belief opposition to illegal immigration is a racist stance. He can call me an enemy 'til the cows come home and I won't bat an eye with this guy, but I'm really sick and tired of being called a racist for merely opposing his policies or those he supports.
Reply to this commentLinkReport Abusehe had a moment of unintentional honesty. another one was the "spread the wealth around" comment.
Reply to this commentLinkReport Abusethe republicans are his enemies. the iranians, well, not so much. we are perfectly willing to compromise with them.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseYou know, lots of people around the country hate their employers. That’s understandable; Obama is trying to relate to them.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseI didn't vote for Obama and can't stand his party or his politics, but to be fair, I think what he was doing here was saying what *Latinos* would be saying to themselves: "If Latinos sit out the election instead of saying, 'We [Latinos] are gonna punish our enemies ....'"
I.e., he's saying that Latinos should view Republicans as their enemies. Which is still low, but not as bad as saying that Republicans are enemies of the president.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseWhether he actually means to be or not is an open question, but I do believe that Mr. Obama is indeed a powerful enemy of all those who truly love individual liberty.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseFeel the love! Let's have a chorus of Kumbya, what say?
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseWhen do we see the list?
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseObama is not interested in being President of The US. He is the leader of his political faction. If you don't support him you are his enemy.
