Why Can’t American Bishops Say This?

The Pope, yesterday:

States have the right to regulate migration flows and to defend their own frontiers, always guaranteeing the respect due to the dignity of each and every human person. Immigrants, moreover, have the duty to integrate into the host Country, respecting its laws and its national identity.

CIS published a critique last year of American bishops who sounded a very different note.

This isn't rocket science. In Europe, immigrants are Muslims or Eastern Orthodox. Here, they are Catholics. The Bishops would be pretty lonely if we deported their congregations.

Why Can't American Bishops Say This?

Because it seems plain they view the Catechism as a quaint academic study rather than the complete publication of the teaching of the Magisterium.

What use has an anarchist for the text of the Constitution?
