If It’s Friday, It Must Be Monday Stuff from Debby

I got this on Monday and was going to save it for the G-File. But this week’s G-File became part of the begathon, so here’s Monday stuff, on Friday.

The swastika article is interesting. I just returned from a business trip to Nagano, Japan, and visited the Zenko-ji temple. A large banner on the main hall has two large swastikas on it, and a large porcelain (or imari) vase/decanter on display in the main yard also has a swastika on it. I did a double-take the first time I saw them.

Anyone wondering what child actor Billy Mumy from Lost in Space has been up to? Check out the last band in "10 Weirdest Bands" link.

The author of the logical fallacy site uses an interesting example to illustrate the fallacy of the ambiguous middle term:

"All human fetuses are human.
Any human has the right to life.
Therefore, all human fetuses have the right to life."

The problem is that pro-life people don't use the word "human" in two different senses in this argument. You can argue with the truth of either of the premises, but to call this a fallacious argument is wrong.
