Rich, Olbermann dropped the primary bomb last night in his more-histrionic-than-usual special comment:
But this, of course, is ridiculous. For one thing, incumbent presidents have massive structural advantages. And, as much as their anger is blinding them now, come 2012 the smarter progressives will realize just how difficult it was to have elected even a “disappointment” like Obama in what is, to their everlasting chagrin, a center-right country. Obama’s victory was the product of a fleeting cultural, political, and economic moment unlikely to be repeated any time soon. It will be difficult-unto-impossible to elect somebody to his left. Add to that the discomfort many progs will feel at primarying the first African-American president and I just don’t see it happening.
