Oh no, those right-wing fanatics are at it again. Presumably incensed at Sen. Richard Burr (R., N.C.) for voting yea on repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” a member of the “American Taliban” vandalized Burr’s office building in Greenville, N.C., adorning it with swastikas, the words “criminal government,” and “blind follow blind.”
Wait, that’s not quite it. As it turns out, the vandalized office belonged to Sen. Kay Hagan (D., N.C.), who outraged liberals by voting against the DREAM Act, which would install a path to citizenship for children of illegal immigrants. After initially signaling her support for the bill, Hagan switched her vote to no at the last minute, joining four other Democrats in opposition.
Security cameras captured a “white male with a thin build” carrying out the act. You can see the video here.
This is less a 'liberal' versus 'conservative' issue and more of a 'some people of every persuasion are awful when they don't get what they want' issue, with a side-helping of class differences (the poor are more likely than the rich to use extra-legal means of expressing displeasure when they don't get what they want, for obvious reasons).
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseObvious point televangelist. The point of pointing out stuff like this though is to expose the media narrative that right wingers are violent as foolish and a calculated lie.
Maybe we should take the high road, but I am tired of letting the opposition in the media get away with this kind of propaganda unanswered because we are too good for similar propaganda. That is how we lose elections to socialists even though we live in a right of center country.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseOK, I watched it and Yup, that thin. pasty (I am assuming skin color here) fellow with the long coat and a backpack must have been a Tea Party member.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseOh wait, most of the TP members I know would have been asleep at 2:15 AM because WE HAVE JOBS and have to get up in the morning!
@Televangelist RE: "This is less a 'liberal' versus 'conservative' issue"
Ideally, yes. Realistically, there is a distinction based upon the amount and intensity of the coverage received.
This incident, as it actually occurred, doesn't fit The Narrative, whereas the fictional one snarkily presented RE: DADT does.
I wish it were possible to take a story like this and plant both versions on equal footing. See which one takes off. Alas, Drudge ruins everything. :(. Haha.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseThis isn't a liberal or conservative issue because the vandal is not clearly a liberal or conservative.
Please explain, Mr. Stiles, what possible connection this vandalism has to Sen. Hagan's DREAM vote when the building was defaced early on a Thursday morning and the vote took place two days later on Saturday?
Furthermore, I find it telling that the initial MSM article linked to here goes to great pains NOT to 'paint' the culprit as left or right wing.... yet National Review is able to erroneously conflate the two to score a dubious and cheap political point. Nice work.
"While the words have anti-government undertones, there is no clear reason why the man in the video painted the graffiti or why he chose the Hendrix Building, the courthouse and Senator Hagan's office.

Bunk.
Try doing some research on who are truly behind the most violent political movements. Hint: bin Laden didn't come from poverty, the Ayers family wasn't on welfare when Bill was sending people to plant bombs, and you aren't going to find a day laborer anywhere in the ranks of ELF.

He may have a point in that those rich activist types rarely do the dirty work themselves. You won't see Bin Laden with a bomb strapped to his chest, but you will see plenty of poor, uneducated types suckered into following his orders.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseAt the risk of sounding librul and wicked... we don't know why this vandal targeted Hagan. The attacker could be an outraged liberal, or an outraged conservative. Hagan's recently given both sides of the divide plenty of grist.
But if anything, an attack on a Democratic office is probably more likely to come from someone who really hates Democrats.
Odd, odd post.
