Huckabee: Michelle Obama’s Right on Child Obesity

Text

When it comes to child obesity, Mike Huckabee has praise for Michelle Obama’s approach — and thinks that Sarah Palin should give Obama’s anti-obesity initiatives another chance.

“With all due respect to my colleague and friend Sarah Palin, I think she’s misunderstood what Michelle Obama’s trying to do,” said Huckabee in an interview yesterday with New York radio talk show host Curtis Sliwa, referring to Palin’s sarcastic comment in Sunday’s episode of Sarah Palin’s Alaska that she had made s’mores “in honor of Michelle Obama.”

“Michelle Obama’s not trying to tell people what to eat … or trying to force the government’s desires on people, but she’s stating the obvious: that we do have an obesity crisis in this country,” argued Huckabee. “The First Lady’s campaign is on target and it’s not saying you can’t or shouldn’t ever eat a dessert.”

Sarah Palin’s Alaska, in addition to being a newsmaker, has achieved a stable 3-million viewership — less than the five million viewers that watched the show’s premiere, but about the same number that watch prominent cable show Mad Men. TLC is so pleased with the show’s ratings success that it’s trying to sign Palin up for another season, according to the celebrity website PopEater.

“The network is doing everything it possibly can to convince Sarah to do another season, but at the end of the day it looks like it will all come down to money,” a TLC insider said. An anonymous Palin friend told PopEater that Palin was hoping to up her salary from $250,000 an episode to at least $1 million per episode.

UPDATE: Palin aide Rebecca Mansour tweeted last night that “Rule of thumb: anything ‘PopEater’ reports about Sarah Palin is completely made up — as in fabricated out of thin air.” (Thanks to the commenters who pointed this out!)
