The Price of Liberty Is . . .
Monday night on ABC’s World News, the Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, along with chief counterterrorism adviser John Brennan and Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano, sat with Diane Sawyer for a candid discussion – arguably too candid. When the host referenced the twelve men arrested by Scotland Yard that very morning plotting a terrorist attack, she was met with a bewildered gaze from Director Clapper. Despite the wall-to-wall news coverage on the British arrests, the director of national intelligence was entirely deaf to this development. Mrs. Sawyer was perspicacious to make her final question about the sleep habits of those “standing sentry over American security.” As the gathered intelligence chiefs inquired of themselves how well they slept, the rest of us already knew the answer: Much Too Well.
