Is Maria Cino Credibly Pro-life?

It’s quite possible and welcome for a pro-abortion Republican (or Democrat!) to change his or her views.

But the information that Maria Cino, a candidate for RNC chair backed by many mainstream conservatives, is circulating about her record is misleading. She’s claiming that she is a victim of false attacks, when in fact she has refused to acknowledge, explain, or deny the fact that she served on the board of directors for a pro-abortion GOP group (Wish List) and made personal donations to their pro-abortion PAC, as Lifesite News has reported.

Her response is woefully inadequate to the main charge: No one I know who is deeply and ardently pro-life would participate in a pro-abortion PAC.

Come clean, Maria. Trust is a precious commodity. Don’t squander it.

CORRECTION: It was LifeNews.com that did the reporting.

We cannot have a pro-abortion leader of the party. If there is one thing the GOP is known for, it is its institutionalized opposition to abortion. We similarly could not have a leader of the party who favored mandatory unionization of industries, even if pro-life, pro-defense, etc. People of good faith might disagree on the issue, but there are generally held principles that the leader of the party must personally hold, even while being free to acknowledge differences within the party.
I am not sure if Cino is pro-abortion, but her involvement in this group (which I'd never heard of) seems to indicate she is.

Cino is probably the least appealing candidate mentioned thus far, and her endorsements by the dysfunctional NY State GOP and pro-abortion Jo Ann Davidson only give rise to more concern. I think I'd actually rather stick with Steele than have Cino as RNC chair, if it came down to that.

Oh yes, you should kick Christine Todd Whitman, Betty Ford, Senator Susan Collins, Representative Kay Granger,Senator Olympia Snowe, Lisa Murkowski - all of them out of the Republican party because they support a Republican organization. Who cares if Cino supported this organization in 1998?? They should have known then what the Republican party supports 13 years later! Who cares that they're the most well-known Republican women of record (as opposed to television punditry)?? There's no room in the Republican Party for anyone to dissent from that narrow right-wing ideology! That's exactly how to woo voters!!

That is quite a list of RINOs, Hughman. The only thing distinguishing that list of women, is how they have collectively HARMED the GOP.

They would all be Democrats, if they thought they could get elected as such. It will be a pleasure next year, as the Tea Party focuses on sending Collins home for good.

@JohnG - Yes, that "tea party strategy" worked so well for Joe Miller against Murkowski. Perhaps the Tea Party will promote another Scott Brown because that worked out fine too.

Cant win them all Hughman.

But, we won plenty. And yes, Scott Brown is a target too.
I know, many would like to discredit us, because we took down a number of establisment Republicans.

I guarantee you, its nothing like 2012 is going to be. Orrin Hatch? See ya!

Change you can believe in, baby.

Hughman,

The Tea Party election just served up the most Republican wins of your lifetime (all our lifetimes) and you're in a funk because Joe Miller lost?

Regardless, your "Who cares?" question can be rephrased as "Who cares if a candidate has no social foundation to what he believes?" And yes, who the hell does care if Susan Collins, Olympia Snowe and Todd Whitman are well known, whatever that means. Should we poll the nation and see who's more well known--Olympia Snowe or Chris Christie? And then if Olympia Snowe wins, well then she should be the conscience of the party?
