Speaking of those predictions, here’s a reader comment based on the prediction that Castro will die in 2011 (offered separately by Jonah and me):
I loved that two of you predicted that Fidel Castro would die but is anyone willing to predict a free Cuba?
It brings to mind something the novelist Stephen Coonts said when I pointed out that he had killed Castro in two of his books. From my article:
In “Cuba,” a 1999 thriller that Mr. Coonts considers his personal best, he speculates about a succession struggle as Fidel Castro lies dying. It wasn’t the first time he had turned his eye toward Havana: In “Under Siege,” a 1991 book, a firing squad executes the Cuban dictator. “Yeah, I’ve killed Castro two times,” says Mr. Coonts. “Anything worth doing once is worth doing twice.”
As for the request of an additional prediction, I’m afraid Fidel Castro’s death won’t bring freedom to Cuba.
The one and only.
