Reps. Lummis, Schmidt Endorse Cino
Congresswomen Cynthia Lummis of Wyoming and Jean Schmidt of Ohio have endorsed Maria Cino for chair of the Republican National Committee, National Review Online has learned. Facing questions about her views on abortion, Cino has tried to allay fears among social conservatives by brandishing endorsements from prominent pro-life politicians. Lummis and Schmidt, who identify themselves as “Pro-Life Women of the House of Representatives,” fall into that category. In a letter to the RNC, the congresswomen urge members to back Cino:
Dear Members of the Republican National Committee:
We the undersigned Pro-Life Women of the House of Representatives feel compelled to write to you and stress our support for Maria Cino for Chairman of the Republican National Committee.
As you may know, Maria is a devout Roman Catholic and stands with us in our opposition to abortion. Maria has also stood with us in our battle just to get to the House of Representatives. Her work at View Pac has enabled women from all over the country to make our voices heard here in Washington.
Maria is a friend, a conservative, and supporter of our cause. The RNC would be proud of her and as ardent supporters of Life we wholeheartedly support her candidacy.
