GOP Rep Introduces Legislation Cutting Spending

by Katrina Trinko

Rep. Kevin Brady (R., Tex.) has introduced a bill that would slash federal spending by $153 billion over five years.

The cuts are mainly focused on wasteful government spending and the Department of Defense.  Many of the cuts were first proposed by the President’s deficit commission, including cutting the White House and Congressional budgets by 15 percent, freezing pay for congressional members and federal employees for three years, and reducing the number of federal employees by 10 percent. Brady also cuts funding for the Department of Defense by $70 billion over five years, proposing that the department reduce R & D and major weapon systems spending.

Other cuts include collecting back taxes from federal government employees and eliminating unemployment benefits for millionaires.
