You Can’t Say the F-Word on Canadian Radio

Text

No, not that one, the other F-word. But is bleeping it really so bad? I don’t believe you can say either one on American radio — even in 1985, the radio version of the Dire Straits song had that word bleeped out. This bleeping of F-words generally incites young people to want to buy the “uncensored” version, thus serving the dual purpose of establishing a basic standard of propriety — and increasing what we used to quaintly call “record sales” from transgressive buzz.
