Let me get this straight, Jonah: you want more Congress?
In seriousness, here’s why I’d object: The House is already run like a zoo. The size of the body as it stands is already so unwieldy that it gives disproportionate power to party leadership and a small handful of committee chairs. Expanding it might actually result in the further consolidation of power and decreased influence of members of the rank-and-file. 2) Relatedly, even if suggestions that expanding the House could end the two-party deadlock are correct, do were really want a Congress that is more like a parliament? Governing coalitions forming and breaking once a fortnight? I don’t.
