Islamists Never Sneak in from Mexico

Oops:

U.S. border authorities have arrested a controversial Muslim cleric who was deported from Canada to Tunisia three years ago and was caught earlier this month trying to sneak into California inside the trunk of a BMW, according to court documents.

Said Jaziri, the former Imam of a Muslim congregation in Montreal, was hidden inside a car driven by a San Diego-area man who was pulled over by U.S. Border Patrol agents near an Indian casino east of San Diego. Jaziri allegedly paid a Tijuana-based smuggling group $5,000 to get him across the border near Tecate, saying he wanted to be taken to a “safe place anywhere in the U.S.” . . .

According to the court documents, a Mexican foot guide led Jaziri and a Mexican immigrant over the fence near Tecate and he trekked overnight through the rugged back country, to a road where drivers frequently pick up immigrants for smuggling runs into San Diego.

Border Patrol agents, alerted by fire fighters who saw the immigrants get in the trunk, pulled the car over near the Golden Acorn Casino, about 50 miles east of San Diego. He told agents that his journey to the border had been a long one. He took a flight from Africa to Europe, then to Central America and Chetumal, Mexico, on the Mexico-Belize border, where he took a bus to Tijuana.

But he’s just a willing worker looking for a willing employer — what’s the problem?

Glad we got him. How many come across our southern border that we don't catch?

He just wanted a job no one would take.

Border Patrol just found a book along the Arizona border titled "In Memory of Our Martyrs." It contains the biographies of jihadis who spontaneously combusted in the name of Allah.

Why couldn't he have gotten one of those smugglers who takes peoples' money and then dumps them to die in the desert?

Mark, Mark, Mark, there you go trying to alarm the nation. I'm sure the Imam only wants to take Obama up on his outreach to Islam program by coming into the US to counsel young Muslim men about the religion of peace!! Sneaking in via car trunk was only necessitated because the xenophobic, Islamophobe’s of the right have made it difficult to obtain a visa via normal channels. Perhaps he was just trying to get to Houston to become an astronaut? I’m sure he wouldn’t foment unrest or encourage Muslim’s to follow the wayward path of an Atta, or the shoe bomber, or the Jockey shorts bomber. Oh no, I’m sure he’d do nothing like that. Right!!!!! Or as mnmike presciently posted he just wanted to fill a job no American would take! (By the way, I don’t think I heard Obama talk seriously about border security in his SOTU babbling. Disturbing.)

mnmike: **groan!** ;-)

I haven't heard much about the growth of radical Islam in Mexico. Is it that it's not happening, or that it's just not being reported?

tiredturtle... Simple and innocent explanation: Imam Jaziri was going to Houston in response to NASA's Muslim outreach. No word on whether he had registered for shuttle flight instruction, hold the landing practice.
