Those thrown into Mubarak’s gulags lately apparently include the well-known Egyptian blogger who goes by the name “Sandmonkey.” So says the Guardian. His blog also has been taken down. A rare liberty-minded voice in Egypt, he is the sort of person a decent regime would be listening to rather than shutting up.
Roger Simon had a short interview with him yesterday, which you can hear here. Sandmonkey asks:
“Does America stand for its ideals or does it stand for its interests?”
A bit of both, of course. But spare a thought today for a brave young writer. He’s on our side — are we on his?
