Kate, it can’t be emphasized enough that this is above and beyond what the Pledge to America promised in terms of cuts, in a fiscal year that is already nearly half over. Indeed, Ryan even threw in some $16 billion in defense cuts.
But stay tuned for some Dutch-door action from the Democrats, who will in the same breath claim that the Republicans have failed to hit their promised spending-cut targets, and that in doing so they are going to starve your grandmother to death.
Daniel: I believe we have a dilemma here. You said the Dem’s say that the Republican’s “are going to starve your grandmother to death.” Then we have the Dem’s “Death Panels” in the Obamacare law. But Michelle says we are too fat, so granny should go on a diet anyway, so maybe the R’s reduced diet is a bit less draconian. Sounds like granny is toast no matter which way we go. Boy it is confusing trying to figure this stuff out.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseDaniel, I agree with you. Arguing that a policy isn't tough on spending while at the same time complaining about draconian cuts in spending is pretty disengenous. Neither side should do it.
But isn't that what many Republicans did with Obamacare? Death panels on the one hand, failure to curb costs on the other.
Unfortunately, I think it's a sickness that afflicts both sides of the aisle. We would all be better off with less "bad faith" political arguments. Do you think Republicans are more honest with their policy critiques?
