Texas Senate Praises Islamist Cult Leader

According to Today’s Zaman, a newspaper owned by followers of the Islamist cult leader Fethullah Gulen, the Texas Senate passed a resolution praising Gulen after Gulen and his followers sponsored several educational centers in Texas. Gulen lives in a militia compound in the Poconos in Pennsylvania and has a history of inciting violence. His organization also repeatedly publishes anti-Semitic conspiracy theories. Good job, Texas. Hope your dignity was worth the cash.

Texas lost its dignity a long time ago.

Exhibit 43 (at least): Arguing the speaker of the Texas house should not be re-elected because he was not Christian.

This is less egregious. We should celebrate that Texas does not reflexively say Islamists are bad (although, it this case, it would have been correct).

"We have the most steadfast conservative and American values in the country....unless you pay with Mastercard or Visa" - Texas Senate

Well, it was the Texas legislature that passed a resolution praising Albert DeSalvo, the Boston Strangler, for his work on "population control and applied psychology" back in the '70s, so I'm not THAT surprised by this.

Some of them good ol' boys don't cotton to all that book learnin' and readin' and writin', Ah reckon.

So ashamed of how out of touch so many Texans are about Islamists. I lay that at the feet of the newspapers who are not doing their job educating on the differences between radical and moderate Islam. Too many in the press and the small town govt leaders take ALL Muslims at their word, claiming to be benign. Isn't that how any good con man operates?

Terrorists in suits are still terrorists.

When our National Security Adviser doesn't know how the Muslim Brotherhood really works, how bad is it going to be down the line in state and city governments. Wake up, people.

I sent this to my state senator, Ken Paxton:
Is this correct? Does anyone do their homework and research anymore before you award "praise" on someone, or is it just PC to "praise" someone to promote your unbiasedness? Shameful.
Texas should more discriminating and aware of what they're doing, especially under conservative control. Tell Dewhurst, this just did him in on his Senate bid!!

It's a good thing the US Senate never errs like this.

How parochial of you to make such denigrating comments about Texan intelligence or education, linearheights.

So, because he isn't perfect Texas should have turned away the money he was donating? Good thing you're not trying to improve education in Texas.

Allen-

the argument that the Speaker of the House has to be Christian was made by a small group of people. (But you know the media loves to spotlight the loons). It is hardly representative of the Republican party of Texas, the people of Texas or the elected officials in Texas. I believe that is evident in the fact that the Speaker was re-elected by a large margin.

Does anyone here happen to know anything about the Harmony charter schools popping up all over Texas? Most of the early ones appeared to be run by Turks, and they are all funded by some opaque group called the "Cosmos Foundation" based in Houston. I've seen accusations that they are affiliated with the Gulen movement, but no mainstream reporting about them.
