David Obey, Former Congressman — Thankfully

In his mind, Wisconsin governor Scott Walker is Hosni Mubarak:

“All I know is that last week, when people were asking where Mubarak was — whether he had gone to Sharm el-Sheikh or Paris — I was saying he was ensconced in the governor’s mansion in Madison,” Obey said in a telephone interview with TPM.

“I think what Gov. Walker is trying to do amounts to political thuggery,” Obey continued. “It is one thing to say that these are tough times — everybody’s got to cut back and public employees are going to have to take cuts like the rest of us … but he’s using it as an excuse to gut the ability of workers to organize and bargain collectively. In my view that’s outrageous — and what is especially outrageous is his demand that the legislature pass this in a week’s time.”

At least he didn’t compare the governor to Hitler.

You never want a serious crisis to go to waste. Mr. Obey should know that by now.

Sounds to me like Obey is thinking about running for some kind of elected office again.

But the thugs in this matter are so clearly the Wisconsin Senate Democrats, and also the teachers who are using their taxpayer-funded sick days to take their students down to protest, without bothering to teach the students what they are protesting.

It is sadly becoming very clear that the current mainstream of the Democrat party endorses the actions taken by the union, the teachers, and the Democrat legislators.

In other words, they endorse abdication of responsibilities, threats of violence, and abuse of their taxpayer-funded jobs.

This is a far cry from the Democrat party of Sam Rayburn, LBJ, and J.F. Kennedy. I sometimes wonder what they would think if they could come back and see the takeover of their party by such radicals.

Wow. One bill in a week's time. Maybe Former Rep. Obey can tell us how that compared to passing a 2300 page revamping of the nation's health care in less time? Betcha the Wisconsin legislators even read what the Governor is proposing.
As for the Mubarak in Madison crack, Former Rep. Obey only diminishes himself. He ought to know better.

I think Mr. Obey and his union friends know a thing or two about thuggery.

Is "political thuggery" done in one fell swoop any worse than "political thuggery" done over 100 years?

This situation is more comparable to Athens than Cairo.
