The Tea Party Takes Madison

It is wild in Madison:

Thousands gathered outside of the state capitol this afternoon to support Gov. Scott Walker. Teachers and firefighters circled the tea party as it rallied. Gadsden flags clashed with union banners in the cold Wisconsin air. It was a beautiful sight — loud, raucous, animated, and sweaty. Andrew Breitbart, Herman Cain, Brad Thor, Tim Phillips, and Joe the Plumber addressed the crowd. The biggest chants: “enough is enough!” and “recall them all!”

Some signs spotted at the rally:

– “Stop leeching, start teaching!”

– “Walker 2012″

– “Obama: Worry about your own deficit”

– “I went to work yesterday”

– “We aren’t hired cronies”

MyKu:

No need to be cute.
Time to rip the band-aids off
Wisconsin style.

-------------------

With the likes of Pelosi and Obama offering their unbridled support for the union protesters, it is quite clear to even the most casual spectators that Democrats are flatly unserious when it comes to reining in spending.

This Wisconsin event had done wonders to expose the fraudulent Left.

My hat is off to the Wisconsin GOP. Guts and principle are a magical combination.

Big irony here: We've heard a lot of blather lately about "bullying" in the schools. It's a real problem, granted. But I seem to detect some bullying going on now on the part of teacher union leaders.

So this is no longer about cutting spending, it's become a partisan battle where each side wants to beat up on the other.

This is not what America needs.

I'm impressed with the people of Wisconsin.

There are thousands of citizens assembled in the same crowded space on both sides of the question. People are shouting passionately, arguing loudly, and not getting physical.

The capitol building held massive crowds without any problem. That building was designed over 100 years ago, was loaded to its maximum holding capacity, and had no structural problems. Heck, as far as the reporting went, there were even adequate bathroom facilities.

However the immediate political questions are resolved, I'm already very impressed with the people of Wisconsin; they just seem to get it right.

Too bad that the Tea Partiers are productive members of society--they can only demonstrate on weekends. The Unions, on the other hand, seem to have a deep pool of people ready at the drop of hat who neither work nor produce. Even with that, I think we can make our point in two days.

Poor Wisconsin teachers! Average salary is $52,644 PLUS benefits!

Don’t you just feel so sorry for the average Wisconsin teacher?

They work a whopping 9 months out of the year, and have an average salary of at least $52,644.

This doesn’t include all the benefits they get at the expense of the taxpayer
such as their pensions and health care.

WHICH THEY DO NOT CONTRIBUTE TO AT ALL.

YOU THE TAX PAYER PAY's IT out of YOUR pay check.

The graduation rate in Milwaukee public schools is 46 percent.

The graduation rate for African-Americans in Milwaukee public schools is 34 percent.

Shouldn’t somebody be protesting that?

This should cause all states to rethink their public schools systems and the requirements of State Legislative bodies.

The Tea Party is the best thing that has happened in American politics in my lifetime. The movement seeks to remind people that they need to be responsible, indeed the future of the country depends on its citizens taking responsibility for themselves. Thirty years ago, I was driving home from work when I saw a crowd of pickets in front of a county office building; they were protesting municipal lay-offs, and demanding public support to get their jobs back. The image has stayed with me ever since: employees of the taxpayers seeking complicity from those same taxpayers so that they might continue to be a financial burden. Maybe the laid-off workers were from a parallel universe!

Or, how about this. Some union official in Wisconsin was on TV the other day. When asked about higher taxes to meet his demands, he offered that he would be glad to pay higher taxes. Well, if some minor percentage of taxpayers are union members, then it's no surprise that he wants to invest a dollar in taxes to get back a dollar plus; for him, it's an investment, but for the non-union worker it's an expense.

Walker 2012; d--- right! 2016 may be more realistic given his current term, but this country needs a gutsy budget cutter.

Has this been a great month or what? We've seen Planned Parenthood and the teachers unions being exposed for what they truly are.

“Stop leeching, start teaching!”

A good line, but I wouldn't take it literally. Given the level of competence of too many "educators", their calling in sick may actually make students smarter than their showing up.
