Obama is going to regret waxing rhapsodic about the youth of Egypt making history. Unfortunately, the rest of us are going to regret it too. Popular government in the Arab world is government antithetical to Western interests. It would be nice if it were otherwise but we have to deal with the world as it is, not as we wish it would be. Wish fulfillment fantasy makes very bad foreign policy
JPMulhern : actually I'm not sure about Obama. I'm not a conspiracy nut, I keep hearing from folks he's not a radical, but some of his decisions leave me wondering. As for the anti-Israel sentiment, on Frontline last night they did a show on the revolution there and the role of the Muslim Brotherhood. The face that the young brothers displayed was one of a moderate, pro Egypt kind that supported democracy. But the guy he talked to most, the "moderate" nice guy, at the end said they would never support recognizing Israel as a country. Sounded ominous.
It's not just Obama and the mainstream media, it's the Weekly Standard and the whole neocon bloc. But it wouldn't be the first time they got carried away with Utopian fervor either. How long till Kristol realizes he got it wrong again, I wonder (this guy's had a bad track record ever since he pushed Colin Powell for president back in 1995)?
Still, I don't believe the relatively benign (by Arab standards) dictator option was realistic anymore. The Arab/Muslim world has been headed for a bloody crackup.
Andrew, now there you go again. Being all immoderate. (See Thomas Sowell.)
Why is The Corner the first and most prominent place that I see this news and news of the previous million muslim man march in Tahrir Square last weekend )greeting the Muslim Brotherhood and its fatwa issuer)?
This is the same guy who yesterday claimed that the lack of a quorum in the Wisconsin senate was a "government shutdown." He doesn't know what he is talking about.
