For Ind. Missing Lawmakers, New Daily Fines

by Katrina Trinko

Starting Monday, Indiana Democratic House members will have to pay a $250 fine each day they remain outside of the state.

But apparently, that’s no serious issue for the lawmakers.  Minority speaker B. Patrick Bauer told the Indianapolis Star that the fines were “worth it.”

“It’s worth it for the kids,” he added. “It’s worth it to keep our public schools open. And it’s a far less penalty than the hundreds of thousands of workers are going to be paying if (Republicans’) bills are passed.”

In Wisconsin, the fine for missing lawmakers is $100 per day.
