The Corner

The one and only.

My Favorite Part of the NPR Video

Is when the NPR guy is talking to emissaries of the (fake) Muslim Brotherhood outfit who espouse a mission to impose sharia around the world, and he’s complaining about how the GOP and the tea parties are “fanatically involved in peoples’ personal lives.” Because, as we all know, sharia is nothing if it is not a libertarian credo that boils down to “live and let live.”

The irony of it all defies mockery, but the expression “so open minded his brain fell out” does point in the right direction.

LOL! Much the same for progressivism. Peas in a pod...

I kept waiting for the fake Muslims to break into a Borat routine about throwing Jews down the well. These two money grubbing buffoons from NPR probably would have joined them.

Yet, I'm the anti-intellectual primitive that wants to oppress my fellow citizens.

"The irony of it all defies mockery, but the expression “so open minded his brain fell out” does point in the right direction."

I can not quit watching, in the beginning I truly thought it was a joke. I was hoping there would be some discussion of sharia, even the obligatory "its really not what people think" line. But it was just a forgone conclusion that whatever they may believe is acceptable. Does the female exec have even an inkling of how she would be viewed? The NPR reps seem to think these beliefs would never have effect on them and do not care what effect it has on others.

I wonder if that much smugness hurts in strange places? Off to watch it again, and put it on my favorites list.

And what a perfect example of "penitential narcissism." Not only does Schiller sit quietly and chew his food as they make outrageous statements (penitential), he can't be bothered to engage or show interest in the views of his guests with respect to anything other than his hobby horse - "Tea Party Bad." (narcissism)

It reminds me of a mid-2000s Diane Rehm Show that featured a German politician guest, but the quasi-urbane callers couldn't care less about Germany - all their questions were essentially self-gratifying attempts to bait the guest into echoing their disdain of Bush.

Ignorance and Arrogance. It's truly disgusting. "fantatically involved in people's lives?" Like trying to dictate what kind of lightbulb to use? How much salt to use? Where to send kids to school?...
It shows that arrongance is absolutely handmaid to ignorance.

Gee, this doesn't seem to be getting the coverage the "Koch brothers phone call" received..

Silly me. I thought it was the folks at NPR who support the federal government being "fanatically involved in our lives" agenda.

how much longer do you suppose this man has a job?
how much longer do you suppose NPR gets federal funding?
how much longer do you supposed "the Jews" will pony up their support?

Just noticed a release on Hot Air, stating that the guy resigned last week. Think maybe he knew something was coming?

But these were fake Muslims, so no harm no foul.

I thought ABSCAM from the 1970's was entertainment, this was better. The video and audio were fantastic!

An NPR spokesman said he's "appalled" at Schiller's comments - or perhaps he's just appalled that Schiller's comments were recorded on video and released. How many revealing videos will liberals star in before the organizations they represent wise up and post photos of conservative undercover operatives in their offices?

I love stuff like this. I read so much criticism of progressivism on conservative blogs that seems so over the top, that I have to wonder: can progrressives _really_ think like that? And then something like this comes along, proving that they do, and so unself-consciously. It's not just that they are arrogant and bigoted. They are totally unaware that they are. Amazing!

How is this not a major news story??? Why isn't this on the front page of every newspaper????

I too loved that quote. Coming from someone whose liberal political philosophy defines intruding into someone elses life, be it taxing them to death (and beyond) telling them what they can eat, drink, defend themselves with, or smoke, there is not one part of your personal life that liberals don't seek to control.

I liked the "universities are liberal because they're intellectual" comment. By inference conservatives are...well you know.

The comment about universities being liberal because that's where the smart people are brought to mind a conversation with a liberal friend of mine. I pointed out that most journalists are liberals, to which he responded that the reason is that they're intelligent. After I recovered from the stunning arrogance and bigotry of that remark, I pointed out that when I was in college, people routinely took journalism courses if they wanted a "gut course," i.e., one that required virtually no effort or studying. There are plenty of intelligent journalists, but in that film, they were off-camera.

I'm a 50 year,life-long New Hampshire Republican, and I can't help but feel Schiller makes a few right-on points. I'm dismayed by the vocal GOP fringe that espouses smaller government yet uses the force of the government to underscore a quite religious agenda. And I'm dismayed, too, by the barely buried...yes, I'll say it...racism that the Tea Party wields in its discourse about Obama. And I think he's right that anti-intellectualism has become a virtue among so many of us.

Thanks Mr. Goldberg.

JPD, spoken like a true "Republican". Thank goodness you don't consider yourself a conservative...Oh, sorry...forgot, you characters in the Northeast are the big government, intellectual, elite, multiculturalism at all costs, enlightened, voted for Obama, "compassionate" types...code for RINO!!!

What Fun

Speak for yourself JPD. There is nothing anti-intellectual about opposing human vanity. There is nothing exclusively religious about recognizing America’s founding principles of innate truth, natural law, and the notion that rights are divine endowments, not political contrivances. And there has not been an iota of racism by black American members of the tea party when they share the obvious truth that Obama is a profound fool.
