National Review Online has learned that Senate Republicans are brokering an internal deal on a Balanced Budget Amendment. In recent months, Sen. Orrin Hatch (R., Utah) and Sen. John Cornyn (R., Texas) have cosponsored their own BBA, as have Sen. Mike Lee (R., Utah) and Sen. Jon Kyl (R., Ariz.). Now, behind the scenes, both sides are working together to craft a consensus that could garner broad GOP support. The talks, according to sources in both camps, have been “productive” and an announcement may come soon. The key negotiating group includes Hatch, Cornyn, Lee, Kyl and Sen. Pat Toomey (R., Pa.).
