Mrs. Christie’s Issue: Down Syndrome Research

by Maggie Gallagher

Mrs. Obama has chosen childhood obesity, but New Jersey’s first lady has a different cause: Down Syndrome cognitive research, a rapidly advancing field that aims to improve memory, learning, and communication for people with the genetic disorder.

Mrs. Christie’s “Light the Way” event launches on World Down Syndrome Day (March 21), when the governor’s mansion will be lit up in blue to signal Mrs. Christie’s commitment. She is joined by the “first spouses” of Alabama, Georgia, Maine, Mississippi, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Texas, Utah, and Wisconsin in seeking to call attention to promising new ways to help people living with Down Syndrome live even fuller lives.
