My old friend Andrew Breitbart is in GQ and has the perfect job for Sarah Palin: “I think the presidency is beneath her. There’s more power in being Oprah Winfrey than in being Barack Obama. It would be my goal for Palin to become Oprah and be the ultimate kingmaker for twenty-odd years. Oprah anointed Barack Obama.”
What Andrew gets well is: Culture is where it’s at. Culture changes lives and moves hearts. It has a power to persuade in a way political communicators can only dream of. It reflects a society’s heart and soul, it reveals its fears, it inspires and challenges. It’s where you are and where conservatives need to be to build the ultimate coalitions.
And yes, Sarah Palin — or really the various reactions to her — is a fascinating cultural phenomenon. To ignore that or dismiss that as a political matter is ill-advised.
