Re: Veena Malik

Andrew – You’re right. That video is moving. Here it is:

I agree that we desperately need more women like her, which is why I sincerely hope she’ll be safe.

I didn't know who she was, but I'm a big Veena Malik fan now.

Wow, just wow. Suggests there are some for whom these are dark and desperate days struggling to live in these cultures and stay alive. Also suggests the corruption that everyone knows about but can't even whisper it. So, yeah, I vote asylum now or anytime she wants it since this is all it would take to need it. Pray for her safety. And thanks for posting it.

Who is the drip "journalist" who was egging on the mullah? You would naturally expect the eighth century woman-hating ideology from the bearded clerical horror, but the fact that the seemingly normal, more Westernized guy is on the side of the misogynist cleric is a strong indication that the rot in Pakistan is deep.

It's almost heartbreaking that her brief has to argue for "fun". It's already bad enough that she has to fight for so many more obviously profound things. If you must fight to have fun, when do you rest for the other battles?

We don't need more women like her, we need less men like him.

Was it me or was she getting hotter the more she told off those two Neanderthals?
I think any woman, who complains about our repressive patriarchal system, needs to be jetted to Pakistan immediately, so she can experience what a real repressive system is.

Asylum when she wants it, yes. But she apparently doesn't want it yet. External Link  Pakistan has some very brave people (see also Bhatti, Shahbaz).

It is hard, if not impossible, to snub a beautiful woman; they remain beautiful and the rebuke recoils. -- Winston Churchill

Wow indeed. What a remarkably brave woman! In a better world she would be Queen of Pakistan. Would that we had a thousand more like her.

So beautiful, so passionate, so tough I hope her and her family will be safe.

That is a courageous woman. Hope and pray she'll be safe. Judging from the opposition (and consider that particular mufti was probably more "mainstream" than many others, particularly the Taliban variety), Pakistan is a country that is desperately ill.

Very brave woman, but I would strongly recommend she not go home. She should just move to the US and be done with it. Also you can clearly see our contribution to culture, the words entertainer and lip-lock seem to be exclusively English terms.

God bless her. How terrible it is that we even have to pray for her to be safe. It shows how enormous the problem is not only with Pakistan, but with extremism throughout the Muslim world.

I think the so-called feminists in the US should take a look at real oppression as it is practiced in most muslim countries. While they're preoccupied with abortion-on-demand, there are women whose lives are threatened merely by showing their faces or legs in public, or for having an opinion of their own. Apparently, even the Taliban have threatened Veena Malik's life. I hope her story gets more play here, as it exposes yet one more dirty little secret of one of our 'allies.'

I didn't really know Veena Malik before, either, but I'll be paying more attention, as well.

I don't know if her own people think she's a hero or not, but she's made a big impact on me. I've had friends that have tried to argue for there being many peace-loving and reasonable Muslims, but since I've never heard any of them really standing up against the hateful ones, I found it hard to believe.

I wish there was a way to help people like this.

So .... is Mufti Sahab being punished for looking at her? Or is his Islam as hollow as his arguments?

I'm grateful my daughter doesn't have to grow up in a society like that. My heart goes out to her and her family. She is very brave.

Neither of those two creeps is anywhere close to being man enough for a woman like that, and they're too mean spirited to just admire her so they have to tear her down. Or try.
