More Bad Polling News for Obama

In addition to the Quinnipiac poll Jonah mentions below, the latest from Gallup shows fewer and fewer Americans believe president Obama is a “strong and decisive leader” with “a clear plan for solving the country’s problems.”

The latter is the low point in Obama’s “characteristics and qualities” numbers. Just 36 percent of respondents think the president — well, knows what he’s doing, frankly. Amazingly enough, this was never a strong spot. During the 2008 presidential race, both John McCain and Hillary Clinton scored higher with respondents on this question.

And here’s a track of the “strong and decisive leader” bit:

And another interesting pair of questions, on whether the president “shares your values” and “understands” the problems affecting Americans.

It’s always interesting to note how these numbers break down among independents, and in this regard the news is even worse for the president. Just 30 percent of independents (and just 62 percent of Democrats!) think the president has a plan. And just 47 percent of independents think Obama shares their values.

shocking that 52% think this dithering incompetent is strong, decisive or a leader in any way.

One the one hand, it's an impossible job. On the other, he has done little to persuade people he has anything to offer in the way of leadership.
