Re: Working Off the Same Number

Andrew, about that deal. I have it from a very knowledgeable Hill insider that it might be a bait-and-switch.

“They are setting us up by saying there is a deal,” the source says, “so when there isn’t one by 4/8, they can claim they had a deal but we backed out.”

Of course it is a trap. It's not as if the Democrats at the national or state level have been bargaining in good faith since the last election. The Wisconsin battle was orchestrated by the same forces that are giving Chuck Schumer his talking points.

Making a deal is not even remotely a goal of the Democrats. They firmly believe that they can win a confrontation, and they are counting on their allies in the media to help them win it.

Yes, this is what will happen; good to see that some Republicans are ever so slowly catching on. The democrat party will never be serious about cutting spending. For a democrat to stop spending is like a democrat to stop breathing. It is death.

Only $33 billion in cuts? Tea Party voters can't repel disappointment of that magnitude!

Given that the announcement of a deal came from VP Biden, it's not something to be taken seriously. If Democrats spent as much time and effort working on behalf of the people as they spend trying to pull the wool over our eyes, they might actually do some good in Washington.

Did this insider say that the GOP leadership has a inkling of a glimmer of an idea of how not to lose the PR on this bait-and-switch, if that is indeed what this is? Has it occurred to them that maybe they better get out in front of this, as in out in front of TV cameras, to make sure that they're not set up? Like maybe in every TV interview the next few days, make sure that they get their message out, that Biden jumped the gun, this is a bait-and-switch, and the Democrats, who caused this whole mess by never even passing a budget last year (why haven't they been saying this in particular daily for the past 4 months?), better stop playing games and get down to serious business? Or are they planning on hemming and hawing a little while they look down at their feet, and letting the Democrats get away with this?
