Rep. Jason Altmire (D., Pa.), a Blue Dog, speaks the truth. If Democrats had passed a budget last year, there would be no need for squabbling over a 6-month continuing resolution:
That's all the message the Republicans need regarding a government shutdown, if it occurs. They could underscore it with reference to the big spending legislation the formerly Democratic House spent its time on, instead of passing a budget, which only made the whole thing worse.
Rep. Altmire is exactly right. This whole battle over the Continuing Resolution and a possible Government "shutdown" (even though nothing of substance will actually shutdown)is the direct result of the previous Congress failing to act. Republican "leaders" need to step up, and hammer this message home.
