Wis. Recalls Begin

Democrats report that they have gathered enough signatures to launch a recall election of Wisconsin state senator Dan Kapanke, who voted for the legislation limiting state workers’ collective bargaining powers. Kapanke is one of eight GOP senators in Wisconsin who is eligible to be recalled. Republicans are also working to gather enough signatures to recall the eight Democratic senators eligible.

Seems to me that "gathering enough signatures" is one thing. CERTIFYING them is quite another.

I suspect the Wisconsin GOP will demand a full body cavity search into the names provided and how the signatures were obtained.

And even now, with the requirement for recall such a low bar, what if they don't win? What if the 'recalled' legislators win their recall elections? Have the dems and labor 'activists' (I apologize for being redundant) even thought about that? What if there's a Sponge Bob marathon going on the day of the recall election, will those who signed remember to even show up?

Instead of stupidly mimicking the Democrats' recall efforts, the Wisconsin State GOP should simply amended the recall law, effective immediately, by limiting it to acts of illegal or unethical behavior by an elected official. Simply disagreeing with a legislator's vote on any specific issue should not be a valid basis for recalling someone. If you're that upset with how your legislator is voting, the time to do something about it is at the next election.

Moreover, it should send the liberals into a furious sputtering rage that would be highly entertaining to watch. Don't you agree? :)

"I suspect the Wisconsin GOP will demand a full body cavity search into the names provided and how the signatures were obtained."

That's what a competant party would do. Unfortunately we are talking about Republicans here.

@Chicounsel WI recalls are part of the WI Constitutional, so what you suggest can't be done. It takes the better part of three years to amend.

I find all these recalls troubling. Politicians already rely too much on insta-polls to make decisions that should be based on principles enounciated during election campaigns. Now we have citizenry demanding elections after every decision with which they disagree. This can only end with a mutated form of "pure" democracy - elections held weekly on the fate of every piece of legislation - and eventually, chaos.

"Republicans are also working to gather enough signatures to recall the eight Democratic senators eligible."

How's that going, btw? Also, anyone recall those fond memories, just a week or so ago, when posters were dismissing the percentage progress of the recall signature gatherings? "15%? At this rate they'll never meet the deadline." "25%? That's just the die-hards; finding the remaining 75% will be near-impossible."

Good times.

We get the government we deserve. If there are enough people so inclined to think the money fairy is real, so be it. If the dems are successful in Wisc that just means that Wisc is done and they along with Ill can happily float down the river until all they see is the falls. Then they are trapped.

Serious times require serious responses, obviously it looks like the children are in a good position to win one in Wisc and thus stick their heads in the sand, unless the adults are more numerous than we think. The beauty of this, and even danz knows this, is that the money eventually has to come from somewhere and since it seems the state doesn't want to create an environment to earn it, eventually it will be gone. And all the promises in the world the good liberal folks make to people like danz won't amount to a hill of beans when there is no money to fund any of them.

Since my home state has a decent shot at landing the corporate headquarters of Catepillar that is leaving IL because of their new taxes, I'm not all that upset with WI and IL destroying themselves by catering to the parasite class over people who work for a living. Now if we can just find a way to convince the parasites to stay after everyone else is gone.
