We may see a budget deal today. We may not. Either way, Sen. Jeff Sessions (R., Ala.), ranking member on the Senate Budget Committee, explains — forcefully and convincingly — why Democrats, specifically Barack Obama, Harry Reid and Chuck Schumer, have been (and still are) dead wrong on every single aspect of the spending debate. As he’s said before: “It’s all hokum.” If you’re looking for a primer on how to digest and subsequently refute Democratic spin on these issues, watch this:
“I don’t believe the American people are going to buy this.”
I wish he was right, but a large swath of the population intends to prove P.T. Barnum right.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseI hope there is no deal and it shuts down. That just might get some Americans who are clueless to look at what is going on (ok, ok, the ones who expect a handout, not so much...but the average Joe or Jane who are not paying close attention). This may be too logical, so, in the words of Gilda Radner, never mind.
If the GOP grows a spine, they will not back down (cue Tom Petty and "I Won't Back Down"). Stand your ground GOP, we have your backs.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseWe all know there won't be any shutdown. We all know there won't be any cuts. We all know spending will continue to increase 25% every year until the whole thing collapses.
What I don't know or understand is why these two "opposing" bands of cheap puppets continue to make so much noise on stage. The play's been over for a long time.

Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseSen. Sessions has it right. Obama and Reid have offered nothing, created the situation to begin with, and are the only ones unwilling to do anything. The House is running circles around them and Obama Reid think they are going to spend the next 19 months campaigning with this same strategy against the Ryan plan? Talk about getting slaughtered, Obama would lose by the largest margin in history as you have on the one hand REAL HOPE AND CHANGE you can see with your eyes in the Ryan plan, and NOTHING BUT SPENDING that you have already lived through with the Obama record.
I do not know if they will shut it down, but if they do the Democrats are the only reason why and for no real reason that makes any sense. I know I am going to love watching Democrats whine everyday about the Ryan plan, and then jump for joy as hundreds of them get booted out along with Obama in 2012. So far the best thing they feel they have come up with is food stamps is the best bang for a buck lol. If that is your plan Nancy, your fired, oh yeah you were fired too.
Reid you kept your job because few Dem Senators were up for re-election in 2010, trust me your last day on the job is 2013 unless your party mans up and tosses you out sooner, because you are leading them on the road to nowhere.
All of those Dem's that towed the Obama line in 2010 and lost their seats, staffs, and careers, they know the lessons of Obama already, all of the Dems up for election in 2012 have yet to learn a thing because they are still towing his luggage and Americans are sick of it.
Obama 47% approve 47% disapprove, we have 2012 budget plan of Ryan versus big spender, you need to raise debt ceiling $1 trillion just to get through this years budget, then you need to raise it another $1.2 trillion just to get through next years budget. Each year Obama spends more than $1 trillion in deficit spending.
2012 election Obama 37% approve 57% disapprove, you can bank on it.
Reply to this commentLinkReport Abusereality check is right. President is on vacation again. Unfortunately for all of us, this time the worst caricatures of the president are actually true. Sessions has it exactly right. The Dems thought they could sucker the repubs into getting blamed for shutting down the government again..However, the situation has a lot of people's attention and this strategy just might backfire big time. Hope so. This strategy is the one part of the government that actually IS transparent.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseThe quickest way to lose an agruement is surrender. If the Republicans cave, if they compromise - then we will hear - "see it wasn't that important, it was all just political posturing" We must stand fast until the dems surrender or until the american people listen. Obama, Reid and Nancy P have run up the credit cards, mortgaged the house and the farm and their answer is we need to borrow and spend.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseAs of January 21, 2009, or even earlier, we all have been told the following:
1) The Conservative movement is dying;
2) The GOP is a DEAD party, representing a parochial sliver of the American electorate that, demographically, is set to evaporate with the 2030 Census;
3) Barack Obama is ushering in an era of unprecedented one-party rule;
4) FINALLY, a center-right country is taking a hard-left swerve;
5) Normally devoid of ANY political skill, the GOP would be run over rough-shod by Obama's superior intellect and acumen;
6) Expounding on #5, Barack Obama would leave Clinton's political acumen in the dust;
7) The GOP has ONLY ONE ISSUE: Tax cuts for the wealthy, who comprise only less than 1% of the population;
8) American politics will never be the same - in fact, there are now TWO ERAS of American politics: BO and AO. Before Obama and After Obama.
9) Independents and moderates are now comfortably counted as a Democrat constituency.
ALL 9 have proved fallacious. In fact, the "experts" have never been more wrong in any time in history.
Obama's election surely did usher in a new era in American politics, but not a leftist one.
He has ushered in the SECOND AMERICAN AWAKENING.
Just look at his support among self-proclaimed independents and moderates. It eroded well over a year ago. Independents are comfortably opposed to almost everything he says and does.
My money is placed squarely against the conventional wisdom that now counsels GOP blame for any "shutdown".
Barack Obama is the furthest thing from Clinton. Reid and Schumer are the new Dole and Trent Lott - the majority's leaders of their tribunal. They can pretend all they want that they preside over some non-existent minority.
Politically, every move Obama has made since his inauguration has come up thorns with no pedals on the rose.
And this time, he and his allies are caught with their pants down.
They can SAY anything they want! Where is THEIR 2011 budget, due 10/1/10? Where is THEIR Continuing Resolution after that deadline passed? Or NOW? Where is their SUPPOSED AGREEMENT to cut ANY AMOUNT of spending (whatever figure they want to put on their "oral commitment)?
Obama, Reid and Schumer: SUCKING SLURPIES WITH HANNIBAL AT THE GATES!
Barack Obama, on EVERY specific issue facing the nation, is the least popular president since Nixon's second term. Issue-wise, Carter was infinitely more popular.
The American people like Obama PERSONALLY. But even the most independent-minded have already rejected him out-of-hand.
If Obama cannot even deploy the American military with an approval over 50% at the outset of fighting, how in GOD'S NAME is he going to win this, with NO DEMOCRAT PROPOSAL?
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseI remain stunned that the Democrats are saying our troops and families are "non-essential" for paychecks if there is a government shut down. And all for Planned Parenthood and abortions. Surreal.
The Dems were very transparent (without meaning to be) on FOX (Megyn Kelly's show): Harry the Emoting was standing in front of Schumer and Feinstein and other Democrat Senators, all smirking, smiling and laughing...unknowingly on live TV. As soon as Harry starting whining about being concerned about cherry blossoms, they all looked serious and concerned. Very true moment for the Democrats. This is a game to them, using the US Troops and families-- the finest fighting force in the world, currently involved in two (three) wars--hostage. Shame heaped on Harry Reid and the Democrats in Congress.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseIn another life than this one on NRO, I have negotiated multi-million dollar contracts with very difficult foes. Here is what I know above all else about such negotiations:
The side which is willing to say "No" and walk away is the side that wins. Period.
Say it....and mean it.
If we mean it, we'll win. If we cave, we won't.
