Donald Trump’s position on abortion is not the only matter he has to explain his past positions on to conservatives.
His donations — to both Republicans and Democrats — have drawn some attention. While the bulk of his donations have been to GOP favorites in the past five years ($170,000 to the Republican Governors Association, $50,000 to American Crossroads, $40,400 to the National Republican Senatorial Committee, and $28,450 to the Republican National Committee), there have been other donations likely to irk some on the right.
$10,000 to the Democratic Committee of New York State. $5,850 to Kirsten Gillibrand. $4,800 to Charlie Crist. Another $4,800 to Harry Reid (during the 2010 race alone). $4,000 to Charlie Schumer. $4,300 to Anthony Weiner. $2,300 to Arlen Specter. $4,000 to Charlie Rangel. And $22,050 to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, along with $25,000 to the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee.
Trump is polling well with Tea Partiers now. But it’s hard to see that many Tea Partiers will have a similar donation history.
