Pawlenty Says He’s Running, Staff Backtracks

Tim Pawlenty said in an interview scheduled to air tonight that he was running for president.

“I’m running for president,” the former Minnestoa governor told CNN host Piers Morgan. “I’m not putting my hat in the ring rhetorically or ultimately for vice president. I’m focused on running for president.”

But spokesman Alex Conant told CNN that Pawlenty has not made an official announcement yet, saying that Pawlenty “will have a formal announcement about running for president later this spring.”
