K-Lo, one point of clarification re: your fund-raising post. You say:
I had to laugh the other day when I saw in The Corner that someone in the New York office brought in a Keurig coffee machine. I’ve been here for 14 years now and I can tell you: That’s extravagant for National Review. We do tend to run a frugal operation.
Indeed, it would be uncharacteristically extravagant for NR! (You should see the hulking, creaking Edwardian machinery that sufficed to make our coffee before). Thankfully, the Keurig was a gift to yours truly from some friends a couple of Christmases ago, and in a move that has been called “magnanimous,” “life-affirming,” “inspired,” and “sublime,” I volunteered to lease it to the New York office for a term of 100 years at a total cost of $1, to be collected by my disembodied brain — or my executors — in 2110. I consider it my little gift back to the cause that has done so much for me.
