Sen. Mike Lee (R., Utah) said on Meet the Press this weekend that he will vote against a debt-limit increase “unless or until we come up with a deal that brings about structural reform.” Lee would like to see a balanced-budget amendment passed.
“Look, I agree with what then-senator Obama said in 2006,” Lee said. “This represents a failure of leadership every time we have to raise the debt. And that’s what he did in 2006. I agree with that. This time around, I think we ought to approach it from the standpoint that, instead of kicking the can down the road again, just reflexively, we ought to change the way we spend money.”
