The cumulative evidence of pervasive racialism within the administration should no longer escape the attention of congressional oversight. Although isolated instances of racial bean-counting could be found in previous administrations, racial and ethnic preferences/selectivity appears to have infected policymaking at a variety of levels within this administration. Some of the preferences are garden-variety, others far more consequential. Consider just a few:
-
As Andy McCarthy noted a couple of days ago, there are allegations that political appointees within the Department of Justice quashed indictments against certain co-conspirators in the Holy Land Foundation terrorist-funding case in order to promote “Muslim outreach.”
-
The administration is in the process of paying settlements to black farmers allegedly denied loans by the USDA between 1983 and 1997 (Pigford v. Glickman). The administration has diluted the standard for qualifying for settlement payments to the level of absurdity. How absurd? There are now more than 90,000 claimants seeking compensation of at least $50,000 (one settlement alone was for $13,000,000; more than $2,250,000,000 will be paid out). The problem is that between 1983 and 1997 there were nowhere near 90,000 black farmers in the entire U.S. In fact, the USDA says that in 1997 there were only 18,500.
-
DOJ dismissed a voter-intimidation lawsuit it had already won against two members of the New Black Panther Party. Strong circumstantial evidence indicates that this wouldn’t have happened if the defendants had been white.
-
The uncontroverted testimony of two whistleblowers within DOJ shows that the administration has enunciated a policy and tolerates a practice of enforcing voting-rights laws in a racially discriminatory manner.
-
Unlawful racial preferences are embedded in multiple pieces of legislation promoted by the administration, ranging from Obamacare to Dodd-Frank.
-
Unlawful racial preferences appear in proposed regulations published in the Federal Register on almost a weekly basis.
This isn’t simply smiley-face multiculturalism run amok. When the executive branch casually engages in racial/ethnic discrimination, it shouldn’t escape the scrutiny of the other two branches.
We were told that this administration would transcend race. Instead, it seems mired in it.
Best snark on the comment boards this year - not mine originally - DEPARTMENT OF 'JUST US'.

This situation needs ~EMERGENCY~ hearings on Capitol Hill to prevent this criminal rape of the American people going any further.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseWell, I know that I for one think that discrimination against white people is a huge problem in this country. HUGE.
Did you know that we have never had a single white president? Its true. Wake up people!
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseUgh, conservative victim-mongering, always tiresome.
I think the poor beleaguered white man is doing just fine, you can unbunch your panties.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseDid you know that white people are 80% of the population, but only 95% of the Senate, and only 83% of Congress! This is ridiculous, how disempowered the white man is.
And they are a whopping 30% of the prison population? Why would any white people be in prison at all! And although it has been shown that in our criminal justice system, you are punished much more harshly if your victim is white than you will be if your victim is black, the question is, why would a white man be punished more severely just because the intent of his crime was to terrorize entire communities??!! That's what's so ridiculous about hate crimes laws. It acts as if making children afraid to go outside because of terroristis threats against communities--like that is some kind of big deal!! I mean, if we aren't free to intimidate and frighten the people we don't like, are we really free at all?
WE ARE VICTIMS!
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseYes, RiotLibrarian, change the subject, quickly! Don't let anybody look behind that curtain!
As a librarian, you're a government worker. Shouldn't you be working at your government job?
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseRiot...I think it is ~your~ panties that are in a bunch, because people are waking up. Not only is your racist cant not persuasive to anywhere near half the country, we have finally reached that happy day when your sort of p.c. racism instantly discredits the speaker and his arguments in most minds. That ole dog just won't hunt no more.

Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseStill bringing up the New Black Panther case. Yawn!
IRT semi-literate bibliophile's comment that “you are punished much more harshly if your victim is white than you will be if your victim is black”
This suggests that you are punished more harshly if you yourself are white – as the victims of most white perps are themselves white.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseI love it when liberals complain that whites haven't been punished enough for slavery or past discrimination ... they are fine with whites being discriminated against so that their sense of balance can be restored ...
Quit complaining, you finally got your first quota President ... lets see, 45 Presidents, 11 percent African American population should equal 5 black Presidents ... you need to get 4 more quota Presidents to even things out ... better get busy ...

I feel about this the same way as if Mr. Kirsanow had just said that I should dislike Democrats because they oppose a colony on the moon. Well, Republicans oppose one, too, so why should I hold it against Obama?
The fact is that presidents of both parties have either openly or tacitly supported racial preferences since at least the Nixon Administration. Not a single one has made any effort to shrink affirmative action, racial set-asides, or government mandated quotas. Reagan even added Hasidic Jews to the list of groups eligible for special handouts. I'm not sure who added Asian Indians, but they qualify, also, leaving us in the position of granting preferred treatment to members of America's two wealthiest ethnic groups.
I won't believe that any politician is willing to fight racial favoritism until he makes it an explicit part of his campaign.

So disparity is de facto proof of discrimination, or at least proof of the need for government remediation?
It's funny that you allude to the gaps between whites, blacks, and Hispanics, but there are other gaps. The gap between Asians and whites, for example; or the gap between Jewish and non-Jewish whites. Those are natural, taken for granted, part of the landscape. Jews are only 2% of the population, but 13% of the Senate and 8.4% of the House. But that's apparently OK.
Or how about the gap between men and women? They live longer, go to jail less often, and are more likely to graduate from college. Those gaps somehow prove that men are less enlightened than women. But when men do better than women it magically also proves that they're worse.
Perhaps the feds should remedy all those other gaps, too?
Anyway, the captcha phrase happens to be "life's too short." It's certainly too short to waste time arguing with RiotTroll.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseGood post, WJ Alden. Of course, any politician who takes the posture that you suggested is going to be trashed as a racist.
I think it is urgent that we all develop tough hides in this area so that we can laugh off the bullying insults of the Left. I probably go too far sometimes, but if I go to sleep without being called a racist by at least one clown, I feel like I must be slacking.
We have made a lot of progress, because a lot of us are not intimidated in the least anymore. Of course, it is tougher for politicians who must appeal do a wide spectrum of voters. But the more that thoughtful and intelligent people are willing to speak bluntly and fearlessly and ridicule the race baiters when they come out, the more we will create an atmosphere that makes it safe even for politicians to tell the truth.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseSad to see that the Obama administration is racist.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseAmericans knew when they voted, J. Wright was B. Obama's pastor of two decades. Remembering that shakes my faith in my fellow citizens. When will they stop pretending? When will wishful fantasy give way to unfortunate truth?
I want equality before the law. If that makes me racist, I wear the title with the satisfaction that I am on the side of justice and right.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseSomeone who uses Palin as their tag, complaining that other people are still upset about the Black Panther case.
Now that's ironic.
