Gingrich Received Over $300K for Work for an Ethanol Lobbying Group

Newt Gingrich, who said he was “not an ethanol lobbyist” in a letter to the Wall Street Journal earlier this year, worked as a consultant to an ethanol lobbying group in 2009. From the Center for Public Integrity:

Gingrich was a hired consultant to a major ethanol lobbying group—at more than $300,000 a year.

According to IRS records, the ethanol group Growth Energy paid Gingrich’s consulting firm $312,500 in 2009.The former House Speaker was the organization’s top-paid consultant, according to the records. His pay was one of the group’s largest single expenditures, as it took in and spent about $11 million to promote ethanol and to lobby for federal incentives for its use.

In a Growth Energy publication, Gingrich was listed as a consultant who offered advice on “strategy and communication issues” and who “will speak positively on ethanol related topics to media.”

Gingrich spokesman Rick Tyler did not deny Gingrich’s employment with the group when contacted about the piece. His full response to National Review Online about the piece can be read at Primary Event.

Gingrich, don't run. It is because of people such as yourself we are in the circumstances that we are. You pocket a nice fat paycheck, while the rest of us pay higher food prices, gas prices, and suffer for your personal greed and dishonesty.

In my opinion, this single issue disqualifies you as President because you have obviously demonstrated you are willing to benefit for yourself while America burns. Spend it well Newt, I have decided this was my last positive comment about you after supporting you for all of these years.

We need to get rid of all of these crony Republicans that are no different than Democrats. Guys like McCain, Gingrich, Rove, Bush, selling America out of freedom, liberty, and economy at every chance they get.

Go away, newt, and take trump with you.

Ethanol is an example of why it drives me crazy when people say we can't cut spending. It's a complete misallocation of resources from every perspective: economic, environmental, energy, etc. Cutting it should be a no brainer.
But it's also a classic example of why we can't cut spending. A small group of special interests benefits at the expense of the rest of society and they bribe political shills like Gingrich to keep the money flowing. Shame on them.

Given all of Newt's prior baggage and this new revelation we'd be writing his political obituary if this were anyone else (actually we've have written it years ago). Apparently Newt does not think the rules (any rules) apply to him.

This is not the man we need representing Conservatism on the national stage. To quote a little Cromwell - "You have sat too long for any good you have been doing. Depart, I say, and let us have done with you. In the name of God, go!"

I've been speaking out here at the Corner against Newt's ludicrous candidacy ever since first reading about it. This is just one more reason to stick a fork in him and look at more serious people as candidates.

I agree with Reality Check, this is a real litmus test for me. There is NO reason, other than the Iowa primary, for anybody to support ethanol subsidies by the federal government, especially with food prices rising as they are now. If you'll pander for those votes, then I can't trust you on anything.

Go away Gingrich. You fooled me once. Not again. Go earn an honest living if you haven't already spent too much time on K Street.

Oh, great. Another big government Republican.

Methinks Newt wanted this little nugget to come out to pander to the Iowa causus.

Hopefully this kills Newt. As if his global warming support wasn't enough of a problem already.

Goodbye please.

This is exactly why real Americans need to stop sitting on the sidelines and do something to get these grease balls out of power. Join GOOOH.com for a NON-PARTISAN Plan to replace all 435 members of Congress with true citizen representatives not career politicians! Shame on you Newt for disgracing real conservatives.

Vote Gary Johnson for President 2012!
