Re: Intel Originating from Detainees Led to Location

According to “senior administration officials,” the intelligence that led to the strike on the Pakistani compound where Osama Bin Laden was killed was developed, in part, through interrogation of detainees.

Based on statements given by U.S. detainees since the 9/11 attacks, they said, intelligence officials have long known that bin Laden trusted one al-Qaida courier in particular, and they believed he might be living with him in hiding.

Four years ago, the United States learned the man’s identity, which officials did not disclose, and then about two years later, they identified areas of Pakistan where he operated. Last August, the man’s residence was found, officials said.

Of course, this likely took a lot of work on the ground, through other methods of intelligence. But it would be interesting to know the where and how of the interrogations. Were these GTMO detainees and was this the result of the much maligned enhanced interrogation program?
