Conn. Hands Pink Slips to 4,700 State Employees
The Wall Street Journal reports:
Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy began issuing pink slips to a tenth of the state’s employees Tuesday after the administration and labor leaders failed to reach a deal to wrest $2 billion in concessions from state workers. . . .
The $40.1 billion two-year budget Mr. Malloy signed into law last week has a spending gap of $1 billion each year, which the governor said he expected would be filled with concessions from state workers. If state workers failed to agree to sharp reductions in pay and benefits, the governor said he would move to “Plan B.”
“The 4,700 layoffs are just a starting point,” Mr. Occhiogrosso said.
