This WSJ editorial is really bad news for Romney. The Journal has long been critical of the Massachusetts health-care plan, but I don’t think it has ever said that it reveals a “fatal flaw” in him, or said anything as tough as this line: “Mr. Romney’s highest principle seems to be faith in his own expertise.” This is a candidate, remember, who is making his pitch to economic conservatives.
P.S. And what kind of response is this? “Gail Gitcho, communications director for Romney’s presidential exploratory committee, shot back that the paper ‘has been writing editorials against the Massachusetts health care plan since before the plan was actually put into place’.” Right: The Journal recognized that the plan was a bad idea from the get-go. Their question to Romney is: Why couldn’t he?
