Trade Is a Four-Letter Word

by Iain Murray

It’s World Trade Week, although you wouldn’t know it from this administration’s efforts to promote it. Google “World Trade Week” and you get a bunch of links to what local Chambers of Commerce are doing, with one link to the presidential proclamation about it. It takes some hunting on the Department of Commerce site to find the International Trade Administration’s page on the subject — and that greets you with two videos of politicians presumably droning on. As of writing, the video of Secretary Locke has 375 views and that of Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade Francisco Sanchez has the grand total of 53 views. Earth-shattering.

I have some more thoughts on World Trade Week, including a finding that so-called “fair trade” keeps farmers in poverty over at Openmarket.
