Well, someone’s got to break the code of silence around here. I suspect that this will not end well for the unfortunately/aptly named Congressman. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, here’s the basics. A young woman was sent a direct message-photo from Anthony Weiner’s twitter account of a bulging Oscar Meyer [Blank] in a state of preparedness under a pair of briefs. Weiner said his account was “hacked.” That is implausible — but not impossible — for numerous technical reasons. Okay, now that you know that, you can read Verum Serum’s more detailed account of the story.
Update: This Mediaite story might be a better primer.
I demand full public exposure as to who hacked and sent the faux twitpic.Security has been breached. Man the torpedoes.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseBy publicly tweeting to @GennetteNichole a link with a lewd photo, someone exposed her to public ridicule and to having her name dragged through the mud. That someone might be the person whose verified Twitter account that was -- Rep. Anthony Weiner -- or it might be some l33t haXXor who spoofed him on both Twitter and yFrog.
Set aside whether the alleged hacking damaged Weiner's reputation. Doesn't it behoove the FBI, Twitter and yFrog to identify the culprit responsible for defaming Gennette Nicole [last name omitted]?

Huma WeinerSpitzer?
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseSo you know how this will play out, the first stages at least:
1. The Left-leaning media will keep this quiet for as long as they can, probably by simply ignoring it. When they cover it, it'll essentially be a rehash of Weiner's version of events (On this, see Politico's story from today).
2. After a few days of only the Right demanding a plausible answer for this, the Left will proceed to argue:
A. You on the Right are so prurient and sex-obsessed. There are more important issues than this. Why do you pry so insistently, intolerantly, and judgmentally into other people's bedrooms?
B. (And after a few days) This is old news; people are so tired of these attacks and the "politics of personal destruction". There's nothing to see here.
3. 6 months later the National Enquirer will confirm it's true.
4. CNN will mention it in the last 5 minutes of programming before Spitzer starts....
Reply to this commentLinkReport Abuse"Verum Serum" loses all credibility with the headline : "Rep. Weiner’s Twitter Account Hacked by H*rny Look-Alike". Look-alike? The picture doesn't show a face or any other identifiable features (unless you're extremely close to Rep. Weiner, which in this case is highly doubtful). From there all the accusations are based on conjecture and rather shoddy assumption. She referred to him, perhaps jokingly, as her "boyfriend" (has Serum actually read any of the tweets about Weiner? He's not exactly lacking in romantic crushes from innumerable people.) The rest of the assertions are just fabricated wishful thinking. (Not to mention Andrew Breitbart's history of manipulated "reporting".
Even if this were true, why would Weiner suffer? After all, look at how Vitter, Ensign, Larry Craig managed to continue in their offices despite not just gossip like this but actual criminal charges.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseYou're an even bigger twit than we all thought if you buy this nonsense that he was hacked, Hughman. If some homely married geek with a bit of power uses a picture of his package to try and score college girls, I really couldn't care less. But he's busted for being a huge tool, which is hilarious. You people eat this stuff up when it happens on the right, so you ought to shut your pie hole and take it like a man.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseNo one has been "busted at all". And you're the idiot for buying into the hype and gossip with no creditable evidence. "This stuff", as you so succinctly phrase it, happens regularly on the right so it's the basis for all comparison. When you're proven wrong and the victim of another Brietbart scam, will you "shut your pie hole"? I doubt it. You'll whine like you always do.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseWell, I will concede that the true idiot is whoever it is at NRO that gives starred commenter status to people like you. You're just being who you are.

Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseHas there been any statement from Twitter about this hack? Is there any exploit that other users need to be warned about?
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseSince I am not up on who is who, I started to dig for his party affiliation and naturally buried halfway is that he's a (D).

I know there would be no holds barred if he had an R, but given that he won't lose his seat over it, making a ruckus about it only hurts his family.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseHe needs to resign. And if he won't go willingly, we should force him.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseAnd the Republicans should mount an aggressive campaign for his seat
In that district? Pointless.
If it turns out he DID post this, he's in as much danger as Barney Frank was when his live-in boyfriend was caught running a prostitution service out of the basement. The only real danger to him comes if he files a criminal complaint about a hacking and it turns out to have been him all along. If the cops can't get him out of the seat, he's there until he retires.

"FAVORITE DEMOCRAT: I like Anthony Weiner, the congressman from New York. He has YouTube moments I find entertaining, and he’s married to Huma Abedin, who works for Secretary of State Clinton. I have to tip my hat to him for landing such a hot woman. "
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseReally it's one or the other; he either did this or he was hacked. If Weiner's account was hacked, he as a Congressman should ask the FBI to investigate. And that is what should be investigated; a hacker violating accounts of a member of Congress is a security issue. Twitter may be a silly social network, yet Wiener's computer probably has sensitive information and doucments that have to be protected.
Downside for Weiner is that should he make affirmative statements to an FBI agent that are shown to be intentionally false that in itself is a crime. So far, he has not made any such complaint to federal law enforcement.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseThere isn't a more appropriate Weiner in the world for this to happen to.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseIt would be the most bizarre hacking in history.
The picture was posted. It was deleted within 30 seconds and then Weiner appeared to have control over the account.
That is unlike any "hacking" I've ever heard. Occam's razor slices best here.
