Sarah Palin, who is on a bus tour focusing on historical sites, took time out tonight to meet up with Donald Trump.
The two first chatted briefly at Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue, and then headed over to Famiglia’s, an Italian pizza chain in Times Square, for dinner.
Bombarded by the media at both sites, Palin and Trump made it clear in their responses how highly they thought of each other. At Trump Tower, Trump called Palin “a terrific woman and a terrific friend” and said he would “love her to run.”
Palin reciprocated Trump’s enthusiasm. Asked how she felt about a Palin/Trump ticket, Palin gushed, “That sounds exciting. Sounds unconventional.”
She also praised Trump’s attitude. “I love his independence,” Palin said. “I love anybody who is not run by a political machine and will say what they want to say and will put their good experience to use in the name of service to this country.”
Palin, however, sidestepped a question about whether she had urged Trump to re-consider a presidential bid.
“I told him don’t shy away from speaking out, keep stirring it up and getting people to think about what the solutions are to get the economy back on the right track,” she responded.
Palin said the two shared “love for this country, a desire to see our economy put back on the right track” and both wanted to “have a balanced trade arrangement with other countries across this world so Americans can have our jobs, our industries, our manufacturing again.”
While Trump refused to share details of what the two discussed at dinner (in full view of a window full of gawkers), Palin said topics included China and the GOP presidential bench.
The two have been in touch since the 2008 campaign, Palin said.
“Any time you go to New York you want to say hi to Donald Trump,” Palin added.

Please, please, please, Donald Trump, do not ever enter politics and transform the Stupid Party into the Really Stupid Reality Television Party.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseIsn't calling the idea of a Trump candidacy "Exciting" the diplomatic equivalent to the classic moment when a guy asks his pal who's fixing him up with a blind date to tell him what she looks like and is told, in reply, "She's got a DYNAMITE personality!"
I don't really think Mrs. Palin is an idiot--and anyone who believes she'd seriously consider a Palin-Trump ticket or a Trump-anyone ticket must be among the lefty types who DO think she is one.
They're just making the media chase their own tails, as usual. Heck of a great plugola for the pizza joint though.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseAny more questions about Palin's fitness for running for the presidency, or local dog catcher?
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseCouldn't they have gone to a better pizza place?
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseThat settles it, I'm done considering Palin. She shouldn't have even met with trump on her "i might be running" charade.

Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseWhat, the Real Housewives of New Jersey weren't available?
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseEveryone's asking what's really going on in NY. Isn't it obvious? She's doing a face to face interview to be on the next season of Celeberty Apprentice!
To be certain, Palin (or just about any conservative) would make a better President on policy issues than Obama, but I'm already feeling Palin fatigue from all the stories and exclusive interviews on Fox.
My fear is that with her sky high negatives amongst the general public, she will insure Obama's 2nd term, should she run and somehow get the nomination. I think independents would be content to continue with divided government were she the candidate.
I like Palin. I like that she irritates the left in the extreme. I like how she likes to needle them. All that is great. She should stay in the private sector and continue to do that in her own nasally way.
If she really wanted to run, she should have never allowed herself to be labeled a quitter as Alaskan Governor.
As far as having a serious conservate female debating Obama during the election though, I think I'd rather see Michelle Bachman given the chance. I do believe she would mop up the floor with him.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseJust when you think it couldnt get any harder to stay a republican. It's everything I got these days not to drop the party forever. This wold probably seal the deal.
You talk about Ron Paul having a foreign policy that you don't agree with and neither one of these two could even point to afganistan on a map.
I would rather be hanging out with stoner hippies in the libertarian than the big government clueless about the constution warmongering neocons that dominate the republican party these days.
If Romney gets the nomination what the hell are he and Obama going to debate? Government take over of healthcare? Endless wars with no purpose? Wacky pseudoscience global warming?
They have the same answer on every issue.

Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseAn appropriate answer to a stupid question.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbusePalin and Trump are our side's answer to Reverend Al.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseHow is Palin "our AL Sharpton"? She does not engage in racial politics as he does, and she can get votes while he could not. This is possibly the most stupid David Frum mantra, and he has a pile of them.
"Thou shall not eat dinner in NYC with Donald Trump...I am the Republican kingmaker (despite being Mondale fan back in the day)" Charles Krauthammer
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseGlad to see the two get together. Trump has more sway in Tea Party circles than most realize.
Just a reminder: last time both Trump and Palin were both polled in a GOP primary poll; they had combined roughly 7 TIMES as much support as Pawlenty's or nearly infinitie times more than Huntsman (he polled an asterisk, which I guess is close to a statistical ZERO).
Amazing to me how Krauthammer & Co will proclaim a miniscule candidate like Pawlenty or a total non-entity like Huntsman as "serious" or "top-tier"...LOL
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseNot certain what Ms. Trinko means by "focusing on historical sites". It all seems designed to gain attention - and with many wondering about a potential Presidential run, it was originally working. For example, here we see a predictable meeting with Donald Trump, who is a big Celebrity who always plays to put himself in the spotlight. And this seems to be about a focus on attention. And maybe this is all that it is about, like a Palin Franchise effort to raise awareness and funds for Sarah's PAC.
It is ironic, as Trump reminds one of the Maverick. Trump is more of a moderate-liberal Democratic Partisan enabler on par with Mr. Bloomberg. Sarah's record is rather similar in regard, with the Climate Panel Building and populist tax increases on Oil Companies, the complete opposite of the ultra conservative the fashion presents.
But 'the Donald' will do and say anything to help TRUMP - his "service" towards this Nation is rather vacant. Trump's reputation as a business guru is more of a facade, with his dependency for bankruptcy being the reality. It was odd to see many Conservative Pundits pandering to him only a little bit ago. This is an egotist who actually called GW Bush "evil" - rather ugly and tiresome, a real fashion follower. A poor politicking choice by Mrs. Palin.
Mrs. Palin's trip started nice, but the pattern of sinking remains. The symbol of "not a serious offering" (for the Presidency) only builds with more exposure. The endless clichés, especially the self referencing implications about being a "rebel" are not helping. A former GOP VP Candidate, who eagerly embraced the Maverick Platform is hardly a 'big bad Indy', or above being part of a "Political Machine".
Instead of growth, we see more of the same image play. As it stands, this is not going to get the job done on the run for the Presidency (if that is the honest ambition), but ripe for another Delaware Debacle.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseThe Republican elite, Democratic party, and all of the networks including the bulk of Fox, are against her.
That makes it almost a fair fight.

Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseLeftwingers like Old Man want to associate Palin with O'Donnel, although, of course, there's no comparison, other than they are both females.
Have you ever noticed that every female Republican candidate out there is universally hated by leftwingers like Old Man and liberal Republicans like Ramesh Ponnuru? Is there any female Republican politician that Ramesh, George Will types could ever support? I don't see it.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseAfter comparing notes on their TV shows, Trump said that instead of firing losers on "The Apprentice" he would instead beat their brains out with a halibut club.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseIf it's Palin/Trump 2012, I'm asking my employer if I can telecommute from Estonia. I like Palin - I think she would hire a competent team - but an elitist like Trump (supports Kelo and universal health care) would drag her campaign like a battleship anchor in a canoe.
Trump's no Reverend Al, though. Where's The Donald's ™ parallels to Tawana Brawley and Crown Heights?
And Al has more hair :-)
