Meagan Broussard is 26 years old, a single mom and full-time college student, and has served in the U.S. Army. She is also one of the “about six” young women with whom Rep. Anthony Weiner (D., N.Y.) admitted having “flirtatious” interactions over the internet. Broussard tells her story over at BigGovernment.com.
An excerpt:
He was trying to get me to talk about myself sexually, and I said, straight up, I’m not an open book. I was real blunt. He would ask me weird things, like “Did you miss me?” I didn’t understand that–how could I miss someone I hadn’t met and didn’t know? What is there to miss about me if you don’t even know me?
He said that he was an open book, maybe way too open. And after that he said to me that I was “too [expletive]-ing real,” not like other people who were all over him. He realized that I wasn’t taking the bait, and I think that intrigued him enough to send messages to me and open up to me and try to be real, too.
At first I was skeptical that I was really talking to Rep. Weiner, so I asked him to take a picture of himself, which he did. Then I asked him to pick up the phone and call me. I had to hang up because of something that was happening on my end, but then I called back and heard a voice saying, “Congressman Anthony Weiner’s office,” so I hung up. He asked me if I was satisfied, and I guess I was–I didn’t pursue that any more.
Talking to him was sometimes a turn-off because he was so open and just so full of himself, as if he were looking, searching for something. I don’t know if he loved telling me his personal business. I didn’t want him to say more, didn’t want to hear stories about sex with famous people. But I guess he needed to express himself.

Broussard was also interviewed by ABC News, and provided several of the photos (safe) exchanged between herself and Weiner. She describes receiving a picture of a, shall we say, “fully-charged device” from an e-mail account used by the congressman.
As a former USMC officer with over 20-years of service, I can say without equivocation that if such charges were leveled against a military officer, it would be a career-ender, guaranteed. And, depending on how ruffled the feathers of command became, it might just lead to court-martial.
Why? Not for all the puritanical reasons that the left always harps on, not at all. But rather, it's because officers have security clearances and this kind of untoward and frankly reckless behavior is EXACTLY what foreign operatives look for to gain leverage over a possible asset. I'm guessing Weiner has a security clearance. Even if he manages to survive this politically, if we had an honest administration, that clearance would be yanked (no pun intended).
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseThis story is certainly feeding the seemingly insatiable prurient interest of the media and public. It would be nice if we actually got something other than titillation out of this. You know, something productive like a resignation.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseThe actual tweets were pretty schoolboyish, though creepy coming from a 46 yr old married congressman, and it is apparent the young women involved saw Weiner as flawed, troubled, and quite juvenile in his... attentions. I don't think anyone is following out of secksual* pruriency, but more out of the 'train wreck/can't look away' thing.
If 'we' means GOP/conservatives, what we get out of it is the self immolation of a particularly obnoxious and loudmouthed Dem party camera screamer and media hound. Weiner's presser provided all the clips needed by his Republican opponent if Weiner survives long enough to run again. Plus, the Dem Party leadership is in a pickle on how to handle the political fallout because no matter what happens this isn't going away quickly. If Weiner stays in office, he's effectively neutralized on what he does best - showboat arrogantly for the cameras. Plus he is now a security risk and should lose clearances. Pelosi had to call an ethics hearing at a time when other Dems are already facing them and Issa is gearing up his own investigations. This too keeps the meme of Dem hypocrisy and moral malfeasance front and center for months and months at least, and it's only 17 months before nat'l elections now.
Cynically, poliically, the best thing for the GOP is if Weiner does not resign now, but continues to hold out until some finding by some investigator(s) down the road finally force him to resign months down the road or even next year.
In my opinion, Weiner is highly narcissistic, which means he doesn't much care what his actions do to other people, presser emotional displays aside, and regrets only getting caught. If I'm in the right ballpark on this, it means he will almost certainly commit the same type of actions again, just as soon as the immediate buzz dies down and he convinces himself he now knows how not to get caught. But, he will reoffend and he will get caught again. It's the narcissistic arrogance, not a hidden desire to be caught, that convinces this keep of creep that he's too smart to get caught again. 'Pride goeth' and all that.
