Gingrich Finance Staff Quits

Two more Gingrich staffers have quit:

ATLANTA — The top fundraisers for Newt Gingrich’s presidential campaign have abandoned his struggling bid amid anemic fundraising and heavy spending.

Campaign spokesman R.C. Hammond is confirming to The Associated Press that fundraising director Jody Thomas and fundraising consultant Mary Heitman have left the team.

The former House speaker’s campaign has been on life support since earlier this month when 16 top aides and advisers resigned en masse over disagreements with the Republican candidate.

People familiar with Gingrich’s campaign spending say his fundraising has been weak since he launched his bid and that he has racked up large travel bills.

When Gingrich’s travel agent resigns, we’ll know he’s through.

A number of figures--Alan Keyes, Gary Bauer, Al Sharpton, Ron Paul--have run shoestring Presidential campaigns and never had to worry about meeting their travel expenses. How badly off is Newt Inc., anyway?

You can be sure that Newt and Callista travel full fare First Class and stay in suites in the nicest joints. Ten grand a trip and pretty soon you're talking real money.

Incidentally, fat and happy FreedomWorks CEO Dick Armey, (The Tea Party Pretender King) travels First Class too.

Must be nice to live large, fat, and happy on the dimes of the schlub Joe Sixpacks who are induced by the "Make a Donation" web links to shovel over their beer money to pay for Gingrich's and Armey's champagne tastes.

I used to be scornful of all first-class air travel, which I regarded as nothing but vanity.

But that was then and this is now. Back in the day (my day), most planes flew half full. But then those were the days when men might put on a jacket and tie to fly even if they didn't ordinarily wear one. And your rough trade took the bus.

These days, I can't fault anyone who can possibly manage it from doing everything he can to separate himself from the cattle.

Now extravagant hotel expenses is entirely another matter. (Hampton Inns are good enough for anybody!)

Since you just referred to those of us who don't fly first-class on airlines as "cattle", well, congratulations! Newt Gingrich is running a campaign you might be interested in.

Newt and Callista sittin' in a tree...
The only two left who think he can be the nominee.

Oh, well, it's a resume item.

Newt is emblematic of what's wrong in this country. The sense of entitlement amongst the ruling class is beyond description. Newt is at the point where he just assumes someone will be glad to pick up the tab for his lifestyle.

The really bad part is Newt is convinced he is in tune with the average man on the street. Listen to him speak and the guy believes his own nonsense. Self-delusion is a powerful thing, I guess.

Maybe he can join up with Weiner for a show on Lifetime this fall.

Gingrich is a corpulent buffoon whose sense of self-entitlement and self-importance belie anything that comes out of his mouth with regard to conservatism. He became irrelevant in 1999 after leaving the Speakership. Why anyone takes him seriously, other than travel agents and luxury jet brokers, is beyond me.
