Wasserman Schultz Denies Jewish Discomfort with Obama

by Tevi Troy

I observed earlier that Democrats would not be happy with Debbie Wasserman Schultz’s comments about Jewish discomfort with President Obama. It did not take long for Wasserman Schultz to realize this, and try to walk back her comments. According Politico’s Byron Tau (guest blogging for Ben Smith): “DNC chairwoman Debbie Wasserman-Schultz denied today that Jewish Democrats are uncomfortable with President Obama.” Wasserman-Schultz maintains that “there is tremendous support among activists, volunteers and donors in the Jewish community for the President, and claims otherwise are just wishful thinking from partisan Republicans who are putting politics above policy.” Seems to me that these “partisan Republicans” would not have a political leg to stand on if there were not significant questions about Obama’s Israel policy.
