Today on Uncommon Knowledge, Dr. Yuri Yarim-Agaev refutes the notion that a communist system can ever be anything but brutal—in any country.

It would be an illusion to say that if communism takes rule in some society, it would have a more benevolent form than it was in Russia…. [I]t’s a matter of which country is more or less susceptible to this form of the government.  But we shouldn’t have any illusions that if that government, that system is established any society, it would be as terrible as it was in the Soviet Union.
